Club Competition Rules
1. Club competitions will be organized by a Competitions sub-Committee elected at the AGM or, in the event that there are no nominations, appointed by the Executive Committee.
2. The Competitions sub-Committee will be responsible for the format and scheduling of individual competitions and the updating of handicaps. Competitors will be given more time to arrange matches in earlier rounds than in the latter stages.
3. Club Competitions are open to all Full Members who have paid their annual subscription and, at the time of entry, must be available to play on Finals Day(s).
4. Competition entry forms will be available to members at the Annual Bowlers Meeting and submitted to the Competitions sub-Committee with the appropriate money by the prescribed date. The draw will take place within 14 days and be displayed on the notice board.
5. Matches must be played by the designated date. In exceptional circumstances (i.e. family bereavement, illness, a requirement to play for the club in a competitive match or unfitness of the green), the Competitions sub-Committee may grant an extension of one week on condition that the match had been arranged prior to the designated date.
6. Appeals can be made to the Chairman of the Competitions sub-Committee who will convene a sub-Committee meeting within 5 days to consider the appeal. The decision of the Competitions sub-Committee is final.
7. Substitutes may be used at any stage of the competition but; they may only play for one team in any given competition, they may not skip and they must have a handicap lower than the player they are replacing.
8. The winners are responsible for putting the result on the notice board and the scorecard in the letter rack.
9. It is the responsibility of the first named player (the challenger) to arrange the match and in the case of singles matches to arrange a marker. Three dates must be offered; one must be a weekend. If the challenger has not challenged his opponent in the first two weeks of the designated period, the other party has the right to challenge.
10. Failure to agree an arrangement will be referred to the Competitions sub-Committee who will either; declare a walkover, disqualify both players or in the case of exceptional circumstances (see above) sanction an extension. Players should avoid offering dates when their opponent(s) has made it known they are unavailable e.g. holiday, work commitments.
This would not be within the spirit of the competition and would not be accepted by the Competitions sub-Committee.
11. Club Captains responsible for League and Cup matches shall have first call on all players (note: cup matches are often fixed at short notice) and every effort should be made to avoid playing Club Competitions at the same time as a Club Friendly.
12. Trophies will be presented where four or more players enter a competition and a final is played. Entry fees will be refunded if an entered competition does not take place.
13. Dress code is greys except for the final when whites must be worn.
14. No player shall be expected to play in more than 3 finals in one day.
15. Members entering club competitions must obey the rules and accept the Competitions sub-Committee’s decision as final. Failure to do so may result in a ban on entry the following year.
